Research by Informa Telecoms and Media has found that global SMS traffic is expected to increase to 8.7 trillion messages in 2015 (thats a 57% increase from 2010’s five trillion messages).
This is big news for retailers, marketers, and anyone smart enough to be jumping on the SMS train. (The $31.4 Billion dollar increase in revenues between now and 2015 doesn’t hurt either).
At our last Under the Radar Conference in November, we heard from a lot of innovative startups working in the mobile retail space. Startups like TextualAds are looking at the SMS Market specifically and they are obviously well positioned for the future.
SMS campaigns are being used more and more everyday by everyone from major brands and retailers, to financial institutions and even politicians.
People are seeing that SMS has the highest penetration rate of any communication channel on mobile. SMS campaigns are also surprisingly affordable… so… of course we’re going to use them!
SMS is in every mobile device sold in the market today in every country in the world. So retailers, don’t discount the SMS market… If you do it’s going to be a big mistake. Big mistake.
