Online holiday shopping has kicked off to a flying start after Cyber Monday ended with a record-breaking $6.59 billion in sales, according to Adobe. This trumps both Black Friday and American Thanksgiving, which ended with $5.03 billion and $2.87 billion respectively.
Aside from the sales numbers, there's a notable shift in consumer shopping habits. More and more consumers are leaning towards their smartphones for shopping-related activities. Smartphones accounted for 39.9% of total traffic and over 24% ($1.59 billion) in sales during Cyber Monday, setting new records. Mobile shopping is also picking up steam around the world. Single's Day, also known as the China's biggest shopping day, saw 90% of its sales generated by mobile devices just a few weeks ago. Businesses should begin formulating a mobile marketing strategy to take advantage of this shift if they haven't done so already.
This holiday season may break records this year. Adobe is currently tracking over 4,500 retail websites, millions of products, and over a trillion visits through its Experience Cloud and is projecting a $107.4 billion holiday season. As of the time of this writing, $65.15 billion of sales have already taken place. With an abundance of last-minute shoppers on the horizon, we should expect to see a sales spike in the next couple of weeks.
